We cruised on ANTHEM over New Year's to Pt. Canaveral and Bahamas (didn't get to Coco Cay because of rough seas and dock not finished there yet.) This was our third ANTHEM CRUISE (as well as one time on the Quantum/ same class of ship). If every cruise to every port we want to go to could be the that class of ship I would be thrilled...) The weather on our New Year's cruise was horrid - snowy, cold, rainy, windy and rough seas. Only saw the sun in Bahamas for a few hours. Even in bad weather (I am referring to it as our frozen tundra cruise) there was so much to do on the ship and the crew was terrific! I have special praise for Captain Henrik Loft Sorensen for keeping the passengers and the ship safe in extreme rough seas and high winds and for keeping us all informed and updated about what to expect; Hotel Director Ron Ness for running a wonderful hotel at sea; the very visible, energetic and friendly Cruise Director Dennis Charles for making sure there was plenty to do - even with weather problems altering outside activities - and for putting together the most amazing assortment of New Year's Eve options! I also want to praise Dennis and IT Operations Manager Miguel Palermo for putting together a Veterans Meet Up (at which everyone - even non vets - was able to attend.) It was so meaningful...and SHOULD BE SOMETHING ADDED to all Royal Caribbean sailings (only thing I would do would be to try to have it earlier on in the cruise so the Vets who met each other would be able to say hi to each other throughout the cruise.) The extra special add to the gathering was the POW-MIA chair; Loyalty Ambassador Philippe Milor was great and went above my expectations and handled so many guests all by himself - always with a smile and kind words. Also much praise for Coastal Kitchen manager Reuben who took great care of us - beyond expectations - and would be very visible every evening when we ate there; our waiter Jonathan - even one night when we weren't seated in his area and Kevin, the ever-so-nice evening host had him take care of us; Christa the lovely morning host. The other waitstaff in the Coastal Kitchen all friendly and with smiles and willing to do something for people not in their "section." I also want to praise Cristel, the Manager of Jamie's who helped us in 270 on our first day on board. And special mention to Valentin, who on our last Anthem cruise (in August 2016) was our waiter in Coastal Kitchen. He was working at 270 the day we boarded the New Year's cruise and recognized my husband and me. That's many passengers and 15 months ago! He worked the New Year's cruise in 270 and Jamie's and we asked for him to be our waiter in Jamie's (great food as always.) And food on this cruise.... truly consistent and delicious and creative food everywhere on the ship! (Though one night - in the wee small hours I had a taste for pizza and the pizza place was closed so I can't review that.) Our concierge, Francisco and the morning and evening concierge lounge waiters were just always terrific. And our room attendant Sam was always so nice and helpful. Only one negative comment and that is on the tour bus offload in Pt. Canaveral. Our bus - coming from Cape Kennedy - was told to drop us off at the end of the passenger line (sadly in the rain) while other buses were dropping off passengers towards the front of the line and under the overhang and those passengers were creating their own door line and not going to the end of the line. There was no one there from Royal to direct passengers. There should be. Overall, I can't think of a better ship than the ANTHEM to have been on in bad weather. Of course, its also a great ship in great weather. And when you combine a great ship with great staff and great food - doesn't get any better...

Cabin Review

Spa Junior Suite with Balcony

Cabin SJ

Our 3rd time in a Spa Junior Suite on a Quantum Class ship. FABULOUS!!! Lots of room for us and our clothes, Love the split bathroom. Too bad the weather wasn't better so we could really have enjoyed the balcony.

Port Reviews

Bayonne (Cape Liberty)

In Bayonne check in area - It is nice they have coffee and tea set up for but not good when they run out and do not replace. If the location for the set up would be in a different place and not on way to and from bathroom, there might be enough coffee for those who it is intended. Or just keep bringing more. Internet is not accessible inside the waiting area. Perhaps also a redo on the waiting area where it is less "shed like" material and flip the waiting area for the Suites and other frequent cruisers area closer to the escalators and not needing then to walk the long corridor.

Nassau

Even with only a few hours of sun, it's a nice walk around.
