We chose this cruise as we had sailed with Celebrity Solstice on two previous trips and thought we would do it again, over Christmas and New Year. We were a group of 14, with ages ranging from 12 to 87.

Embarkation – Embarkation in Sydney was amazingly streamlined, staff were friendly and vibrant and we were on the ship having a lunch and beer within 30 minutes (arrived at 12 noon) of arriving at Circular Quay. If you’re a Captains Club member, ensure you queue up in that line rather than Concierge etc as it moves faster and has shorter lines.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Veranda 1B

Cabin 1B

We are a family of four and chose cabin 9290, which is situated on the middle hump (veranda Category 1B – free upgrade with our Captains Club from room category 1C), which had an upper berth (ie the bed that drops down from the ceiling). This was our first time in a room like this – for our previous two cruises we had chosen the rooms where the trundle under the sofa was used as the fourth option for bedding. We had heard/read much negative feedback on the upper berths so were hesitant.

The upper berth is the best use of space and is way better than the pull-out trundle, especially with teenage children. You don’t even know it is in the ceiling when it is up. When it is set-up, you can still walk around the room of a night or morning when both the kids are still asleep. Picture attached to show it in the ceiling and then in position. Your room attendant lowers it when you are at dinner each night.
