Viking Sky Cruise Review by jgrkld293
- Sail Date: December 2017
- Destination: Caribbean
Viking's food options were similar to the river cruise version. The breakfasts and lido lunches were ordinary but the dinners were excellent. My only complaint is the lines and crowding in the main dinning room. Each passenger gets two or more visits to the specialty restaurants. The venues were interesting and the Italian restaurant was in an authentic setting. Vikings reputation for fine food turns on evening dinning, not breakfast and lunch.
Our cabin was modern and squeaky clean but after a 340 square foot Celebrity suite, it seemed small. I did enjoy the techno-euro setup in the Sky cabin. It was squeaky clean. comfortable and Viking in feel..
On board the spa area was incredible. I didn't care much for the euro style strength exercise equipment, although the treadmills were excellent. The uniqueness was the t-pool area, where one could roll in the snow chamber and then choose two pools of various temperatures to heat up. This was a great, fun experience.
Celebrity's suite class is also very nice and more private than our veranda on the Sky. In comparison, the food was probably better and the service more attentive in a Celebrity suite. Celebrity's Luminae dinning room is available for all three meals and the service is incredible. Celebrity also offers a dedicated lounge for its suites guests. The staff tries to make sure the guests favorite booze is always available.
Both Celebrity suite class and Viking veranda are great at comparable prices, however, I'd probably choose Celebrity suites given the exclusivity of the service. There is no comparison between a Celebrity veranda and a Viking veranda, Viking is much better. There are no Macarena dancers, casinos or loud music on Viking. The level of taste is not mass market.
