Previous to the Sky cruise we sailed the Celebrity Eclipse in a suite, we found the comparison interesting. The Viking ocean ships are incomparable, plain and simple fantastic. Sometimes what is lacking enriches the quality of an experience. The Viking ocean ships have zero casinos, gyrating fat people in the Centrum and loud annoying music. The entertainment was certainly fantastic, nothing was of questionable taste or quality. The Centrum (minus the Macarena) included Jazz singers, string music and Viking folk music. Wow, what a difference. The theater featured beautiful acoustics and an excellent ensemble of singers although the dancers were somewhat disappointing. The highlight was a revisit to the Beatles favorites around the pool. Unfortunately, there were no seats, so we missed it.
Viking's food options were similar to the river cruise version. The breakfasts and lido lunches were ordinary but the dinners were excellent. My only complaint is the lines and crowding in the main dinning room. Each passenger gets two or more visits to the specialty restaurants. The venues were interesting and the Italian restaurant was in an authentic setting. Vikings reputation for fine food turns on evening dinning, not breakfast and lunch.
Our cabin was modern and squeaky clean but after a 340 square foot Celebrity suite, it seemed small. I did enjoy the techno-euro setup in the Sky cabin. It was squeaky clean. comfortable and Viking in feel..
