For us we learned on this cruise that perhaps 8 days is a bit too long. The pros of this cruise and ship first.

Pros: Well planned layout that allows for Forward and Aft movement without the need to go up or down a flight on a particular deck - nice departure from other ships, hand washing / sanitizing stations outside of all food areas in addition to the hand sanitizers was awesome (now if only we can get everyone to freaking use them!), Steakhouse 555 was fantastic!, also loved the addition of the Bonsai sushi and other offerings, pour your own beer station is genius!, the in room flat screen tv's are nice and the additional electrical outlet behind the tv is helpful, the room 2297 was large and convenient to the elevators. This was out first Christmas cruise and I enjoyed the decorations, spirit and festive atmosphere of the Sunshine. Trivia was fun, Jackson Rayne was good, and the Comedians were funny, Miles more than Biggerstaff.

Cons: the ship was filled with kids who by day 2 had developed friendships and a pack mentality that resulted in damage to the elevators, food plates left in the stairways, halls and elevators, teens entering the Serenity (adult only) areas and being loud and obnoxious to the point of movies not being heard, pool time cut short and an overall awful experience, I blame the parents first and foremost for giving these teens full reign to run around a secured ship, but the running up and down the halls and talking loudly at all times to include the middle of the night was abhorent, especially since I paid for my vacation and these brats were riding their parents dime, guest services was notified during the R rated showing of Kingsmen at mignight that some of us adults wanted to watch, they advised would send security. Security never came, the teens refused to leave the clamshells on the Serenity deck, continued to talk so loud that the movie could not be heard to the point we (adults) all left. The activities planned were fun, but their timing and locations were not well thought out. Selling Bingo cards during the middle of Harry Potter Trivia on an already packed to capacity Ocean 5 Plaza and asking paid customers to remove themselves from the seating at the alchemy bar when it was already standing room only in the middle of the activity in order for staff to sell bingo cards to a line of people that stretched from the Alchemy Bar to the Casino was ludicrous - either a popular trivia/activity on sea day should be held in the Liquid or Limelight Lounges or schedule one activity in a heavily populated area at a time, and have a contingency plan for the other activity if your original place is filled to capacity - not sure if this is the cruise director (Lee)'s fault or what but we ran into this off and on the whole cruise - standing room only for popular activities that were being hosted in areas clearly too small for the demand.

Cabin 6C

First cruise where our room steward came only once a day, this might have been my husbands fault for not understanding him when he came to introduce himself, (but a suggestion might be to leave a form in the room to be filled out by the new occupants stating what cleaning preferences are available, the language barrier at times is difficult and can lead to easy misunderstandings that might result in a less than desired stay.) The Steward did an excellent job. The room was very nice, but the placement of the toilet is awkward.

The water pressure was great. Loved the new safes that use a pin instead of credit card.

I booked this cruise at Thanksgiving for Christmas so I went into this situation knowing that having a room on a lower deck near the elevators would be noisier, that we could handle but the additional noise created by packs of teens running around was intolerable.

Port Reviews

Port Canaveral (Orlando)

Port Canaveral is one of our favorite ports to embark from. We park right there and have always had a good experience with parking, security, porters, embarkation etc. Love it.

Grand Turk

Beautiful port and beaches accessible right there at the port.

San Juan

The best part of this port was being able to access cell phone service with no additional charges! We walked around Old San Juan, shopped, grabbed a Starbucks, ate authenic food for lunch and really enjoyed the experience!

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata)

We really enjoyed the Cana pool and lounge. Great service and a beautiful port.
