Christmas time plus friends already booked on it propelled us to our first experience with RC. Ship is a little dated / tired. Broken and worn out chairs, etc. Dining room is impressive, with 3 tiers. We treated ourselves to the chef’s table, which was fabulous in terms of food and wine, but host could have done with more personality & noise level was excessive, making it hard to talk to our fellow diners. Staff seemed a bit demotivated but some excellent people such as Cuddy, cruise director & our waitress in the Sapphire, Eglan. Having researched shore excursions beforehand, we didn't think it was worth taking them & did our own thing. Shore excursions guy from Eastern Europe stated that it was ‘illegal’ to leave the private island RC own (Labadee)! We found a couple who had worked in the travel industry who managed to escape, albeit after some effort! I didn’t like being ordered by the unsmiling staff member to “take my hat off” rather than being asked politely when we first arrived at the RC check-in desk. Food was rather bland in the main dining room (Sapphire) & the Windjammer buffet although nicely presented in the former. Drinks took an inordinate amount of time to arrive in the Sapphire, typically 15 minutes for a bottle of wine & even 25 minutes for a beer one day! Took the Global Entry fast-track route off the ship to customs, only to be yelled at very aggressively by the staff who said Global Entry was not available. Cabin had a badly marked sofa in it & only a few inches to squeeze past the bed on either side to get to the bathroom. Shower pressure & cubicle very good. Storage in the cabin excellent. Ice shows & musical shows mostly very good. Comedian was awful. All access musical show was a cacophony which was a shame as 3 or 4 of the lead singers had fabulous voices (especially TJ) and harmonized very well.
