Nice Christmas cruise, but missing the wow of previous RCL experience

Trip Details
  • Sail Date: Dec 2017
  • Destination: the Eastern Caribbean
  • Cabin Type: Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Balcony

This was our fifth Christmas cruise, but first on RCL. Loved all of the special Christmas activities and decorations. More focus on Christmas activities than other lines we have sailed.

Ship was overall in great shape. Showed some wear and tear, but nothing terrible and headed to dry dock soon.

Cabin was in a great location. Only three decks up or down to most public areas. Loved the center hump location and huge balcony (bigger than our mini-suite last year on Princess).

Though we never went hungry, we were disappointed by the food overall. Frequently found hot foods cold on the buffet or lacking options we have come to expect from other cruise lines. Limited salad options on buffet, no food outside by the pool, limited hours for ice cream, and pizza was gross.

Tried both Giovanni's and Chops. Both enjoyed Giovanni's with good food and good service. Not a fan of Chops new menu with few options for those who don't like steak. Service was just ok, because they had too few waiters for the number of guests.

Really enjoyed all of the shows. Saw several shows in the theater, including Grease, and two ice shows. Not a fan of the requirement to get tickets for the ice shows, but were able to see the ones we wanted.

Overall a good cruise, but missing the wow of our previous RCL cruise.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Balcony
Cabin E2 8640

Unobstructed view both forward and back on center of hump. Felt very little movement in this location. Some noise from other passengers coming from elevators. Love the huge balcony.

Port & Shore Excursion Reviews

Nice beach day, but local vendors can be aggressive if you walk past their shops.

Horseback Riding

Booked tour with ship, because we had concerns about traveling so far from the port with the hurricane damage. Had a great time and would recommend Caralimba activities.

Great all day tour with several beach and snorkeling stops. We were there for their first day back in business since the hurricanes. Lots of damage around the island, but still had an enjoyable day on the water.

Jeep Safari Tour

Tour was just ok. Guide tried, but wasn't exciting. Described as off road, but was 3/4 on road. Nice beach stop.

Found them easily at the port, but they told us to go with the wrong group and tried to put us on the wrong excursion. Got a taxi for us to go to the right place for the mini-boats, but made the rest of the group wait for us to arrive. Our first boat didn't turn right and they tried to make us use it anyways. Fortunately another ship missed port that day or we wouldn't have been able to switch to an extra boat. Had a nice long ride in the mini-boats and decent snorkeling location.
