We took this cruise as part of a group, so the ship & itinerary was not really our choice. Our last cruise was on the Celebrity Reflection, also for Christmas.
I found the Diamond Princess (DP) to be a VERY small ship. The shopping was almost non existent and the atrium area was also VERY small and crowded. The DP seemed to show her age in the design and appointments. We had an inside cabin deck 10. The cabin was small, no surprise there. The TV area was obviously designed to contain the older tube style TV, and was retro fitted with a flat screen. The TV entertainment system NEVER worked correctly for the entire cruise. Would not turn on, quit working while watching a movie, had to un-plug over and over to re set and watch again. Just terrible. The bed was the worst I have had on any cruise, or any hotel for that matter. The mattress seemed to peak in the center and slope towards the edges. I always felt I was sliding out of the bed.
The food buffet on Lido/deck 14, was very small. Did not seem large enough to support the number of guests. Was always crowded. Food was just ok. Our dining room was nice and food was good. Wait staff & crew were nice and friendly.
Small as expected. TV system Never worked correctly. Would quit playing movie for no reason. Had to un-plug over and over to re-set.
Worst bed ever on cruise or hotel.
Cabin steward was awesome though. Always greeted us by name. The staff really helped make a plain cruise ship better.
