I chose this cruise because 1) i wanted to see if what many of my other friends who have done carnival was true (which ended up being true= a bad cruise line), and 2) convenience (port is close to dallas). Many of my friends have told me not to cruise with carnival. I wanted to give carnival the benefit of the doubts and now i regret having spent my money on this cruise line. The embarkation process was relatively smooth –– the disembarkation process, not so much. A lot of disorganization in many aspects. The ship is old, although they try to keep it clean and in good condition. I stayed in a pretty good size stateroom (balcony), spacious, but the toilet was always dirty despite the many times i cleaned it with the toilet brush plus the times the cabin keeper also cleaned it. The bed was comfy and slept well at nights. The dining service is ok...nothing out of the ordinary. They encourage you to pay gratuities in advance and then they charge you more gratuities whenever you ask for a drink. I ended up asking for my gratuities back and distributed my tips to those people who made a good difference and went above and beyond to make the cruise experience one that was worth it. I need to mention that the cruise was successful to me because of two bands: azucar morena and island fever. These guys are the best but they were not even recognized, acknowledged, mentioned. The cruise director "steve from canada" (a stupid phrase he kept using) only mentioned a bunch of stupid activities and shows at night that were performed by unprofessional kids and people who did not entertain at all. It was obvious that they were just doing a job and not really enjoying what they were doing. Instead, azucar morena and island fever had fun while making sure that everybody had fun and enjoyed the cruise experience. The ports and shore excursions were okay. The tour guides were very informative and went above and beyond to make you feel good. They were proud to show and explain the sites, customs, and traditions. One very negative aspect is the fact that carnival allows people to smoke in the casino area. This is the first time ever that i see something like this. For goodness sake, we are in a vessel for 7 days and consuming that smoke for all this time? Drop the smoke...it is unacceptable!!! Also, some of the people at the guest services desk just tell you something for the sake of getting rid of you, lying and making stuff up. I felt that my intelligence was insulted by the instructions this guy at the guest service desk was giving me, which i knew was all a bunch of crap. I just told him in his face that i was not a cruise illiterate and left the desk. I will not use carnival again and would recommend you not to use this cruise line.

Cabin Review

Balcony

Cabin 8F

It was spacious and the layout was good. However, the bathroom toilet kept emitting this dark substance that was not pleasant at all.
