This was our very first time on Viking, after years of cruising on Royal Caribbean and Celebrity. Since we felt their quality was slipping, we decided we'd try a different cruise line. The smaller passenger cruise ships make a world of difference in logistics. There were many Viking representatives in the baggage claim area to guide us to our transfer to the cruise ship. Embarkation was a breeze - no lines whatsoever. All you had to do was show your passport, get your key cards, and get your glass of champagne as you entered the ship!

The Viking Sky is easy to navigate. We very rarely took the elevators. There are plenty of public spaces to choose from. The Explorer's Lounge was our favorite, particularly at night when we could go outside of the lounge. The lights are kept off there, so you're able to see the stars. We never had any trouble finding 2 chairs together at the pool and the hot tubs and pools were never crowded. Many times, we had the hot tub all to ourselves. Though there may be 930 passengers on board, you'd never know it.

Our cabin was upgraded at the last minute from a deluxe veranda to a penthouse veranda. I was worried that there would be noise because the room looked like it was right in front of the elevators in the deck plans. In fact, it was off to the side and I never heard anyone walking by our room. Our cabin was one of the largest I've ever had, probably bigger than some hotel rooms! There was more storage space than we needed. The usual "you can take a shower, use the toilet, and wash your hands" joke cannot be said for the cabin bathrooms. The heated floors are something you never knew you needed. The shower has a shelf with plenty of room for all your shower toiletries. The sink area even has 2 drawers, so no need to put everything on the counter. The couch area of the cabin was a great spot to lounge and read a book after a day of touring. Yet my favorite area was the balcony. The cabin comes with a small set of binoculars so you can have fun looking at port details while you set sail for your next destination.

Cabin PV2

A great room with easy access to the stairs and elevators. You will not hear any foot traffic, so do not worry about its proximity to the stairs/elevators. It is large, well appointed, and at least for this itinerary, had a great view of each port from the balcony.
