The Christmas Market in Hamburg, with the Rathaus behind it.
The Christmas Tree which adorned the Atrium, near the Customer Service desk. Several other, equally beautiful trees, were to be found around the ship, which had been decorated for our cruise.
The windy weather we experienced blew spray right up to the higher decks.
In Copenhagen, the Christiansborg Palace, the seat of the Danish Parliament, can be seen behind the Christmas market.
Nyhavn is a well-know tourist attraction and was the location of the Christmas market.
The lights of Aurora greet us as we return to the dock. The Little Mermaid is close by.
We enjoyed the canal boat tour of the harbour and were able to see Den Lillie Havfrue from the water. She is now 104 years old.
Aurora catches the early morning light in Oslo.
The Akershus Fortress in Oslo, seen in the late afternoon light from the top of the ship, provided an interesting view from our balcony.
Being unable to enter Amsterdam meant that we approached Zeebrugge in the afternoon. A pilot boat was seen in the fading light.
The Belfort, or Bell Tower, in Bruges, is a good landmark. It was once a look-out point and has 366 steps. It leans by 87cm to the East.
The Largo Minnewater has a large population of swans, in accordance with a decree by Maximillian of Austria. The canalised lake is used to keep the canals at a constant level.

This Winter break attracted us because it visited some interesting European ports and allowed us to avoid some of the pre-Christmas hassle at home. In fact, we also missed some unpleasant weather in the UK as an added bonus.

We always stay overnight in Southampton before a cruise. Our embarkation time was 15.00, but we arrived before midday and were on board in time for lunch. Embarkation is very easy and the waiting area is adequate, but WIFI would be good!

We had not travelled on Aurora before and we look at the itinerary rather than the ship, but we were happy enough with our home-from-home for the voyage. Aurora had been decorated for the season for this cruise, and very festive she looked! Recorded carols with breakfast (and other meals) were at least not too loud and were occasionally replaced by non-seasonal music. There was a carol-singing event in the Atrium on one sea day too.

Deluxe Stateroom with Balcony and Bath/Shower

Cabin DA

We wanted a balcony which was not enclosed by metal, so deck 10 was the only choice. The room, the same as the one we had on Oriana, was well-designed, with wardrobes and a chest of drawers in the bedroom area rather than opposite the bathroom, which meant there was plenty of room round the sides of the bed. We were told on Oriana that no bath robes were provided at this grade, so we took our own, but in fact there were two robes waiting for us. (It was a little off-putting that fresh robes were put out for the next occupants on the day before we left and I wondered whether we should sleep on the floor to allow the bed linen to be changed!) The bathroom had a full-sized bath and the shaver/toothbrush charging point worked when the light was off. There were few power points in the room and none by the bed, but we requested an extension cable, which was provided.

The room was reasonably quiet in the windy conditions, but the sliding door let in a draught and also needed to be wedged with paper to stop it rattling in the night. We requested repairs as the handle was also extremely loose, which were done, but the draught was not cured.

The TV and the reception were poor, compared with other ships. Otherwise, the room was more than satisfactory.
