Golden Princess Cruise Review by mudskippernq
- Sail Date: June 2017
- Destination: Transpacific
- Cabin Type: Premium Balcony
The room was perfectly fine and we had no issues whatsoever with the facilities.
This is not a 5 star resort, probably a 3.5 - 4 stars grade ship.
Food was actually pretty good and wine options were good too. Overall the ship and delivery of service was wonderful.
Now, what we didn't factor was the demographics this cruise had attracted. The average age on the ship was at least 70 years old if not older. We have no issue with this, outside of the fact that the on board activities and entertainment was primarily geared for this age group. Knitting groups, bible study and has-been entertainers (probably big in the 70's) etc left us somewhat unimpressed. The ship show (run by the ship crew) was however probably the best entertainment.
Ordinarily and if in fact the ship was docking every day, this would have not been an issue to us, but our first week was sea bound, sailing from Japan to Alaska. Once however we started our daily port visits in Alaska and Canada and US, the on board entertainment etc was of no consequence to our overall experience. In fact, the itinerary was AMAZING!! The itinerary could not have been timed better, what with vising Canada on Canada day 150th anniversary and then later in San Francisco on July 4th! IT seems that Canada and the US was putting on festivities for us everywhere!!
Overall we have no complaints, we boarded with no high expectations and wasn't disappointed. We didn't partake in any of the ship's own land tours, choosing instead our own land based itinerary's to try and keep away from the crowds. Alaska and Canada was FANTASTIC!
