DAY BEFORE - After researching for quite some time, we decided on Allure of the Seas because of the space and the variety of activities for toddlers. We flew into Ft. Lauderdale from Cleveland the morning before and stayed the night at Pelican Grand Resort. They helped us arrange transportation from ISA to get from the airport to hotel, and then hotel to the ship. ISA was great because they had a car seat so we didn't have to lug one around (our son just turned 3 years old before the trip). The Pelican Grand was incredible because it is right on the beach so we were able to enjoy the day.

CRUISE CHECK-IN - You are going to hit some traffic as you come into the cruise port. Remember, Allure will not be the only ship leaving that day so give yourself some time to get there. Go at your assigned check-in time so that you don't have to wait. There were over 6,000 people on our cruise and Royal Caribbean has a formula to make it run as smoothly as possible. My biggest tip here is to bring a stroller or carrier, have toddler bribery tools like suckers or M&Ms just in case your toddler decides to be a toddler! Have one person in charge of all of the Set Sail Passes and Passports so that you are not scrambling when it is time to check-in. Although it looks crazy, it is super organized and the lines move quickly so be prepared. Make sure to grab a map of the ship along with what restaurants are open and serving on the first day.

EMBARKATION - Once we got on the ship, we stopped at our room to drop off our carry-ons get our Sea Passes. Keep these with you at all times because you will need them to check out towels, pay for drinks (or show you have the drink package). A lainard is not the coolest thing to wear but it was extremely handy to have. After we dropped everything off, we grabbed lunch at Sorrento’s pizza, then registered our son for Adventure Ocean, and then explored the ship. When it was time to depart, we decided to watch from our room. We were on the 6th floor Port side so we had a great view of the departure. It was so much fun to see all the ships leaving at the same time. This was a very fun day!

Port Reviews

Falmouth

We booked an excursion in Falmouth, Jamaica but it was cancelled due to lack of participation. We still got off the ship and went to the shops. People were so friendly and happy. I loved the vibe there. There are two restaurants there as well, Margaritaville being one of them so you can grab a bite to eat off the ship. I would recommend staying at the cruise port and not leaving to explore on your own. There were aggressive street vendors after we got out of the gates so we immediately turned around. There was plenty for us to see at the port so we were fine with that.

Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

Fort Lauderdale was amazing. We stayed at the Pelican Grand Beach Resort before and after our cruise. It was about a 15 minute drive from the airport and the cruise port ( without traffic). Uber is easy to get if you want to go to dinner at one of the many restaurants on Ocean Dr. or you can enjoy a great meal at the hotel. This place is top notch!!!
