We choose this cruise because it offered Caribbean ports of call that we have not been to before. We like sailing from Baltimore as it is in driving distance. We really liked that the time we were in each port was at least 7 hours. Plenty of time to wander and see the sights.
As a disabled traveler, there were no accessible cabins available even through we booked almost a year ago. We ended up booking a junior suite because the door was wider and there would definitely handle my scooter. This added almost $800 to the cruise over our planned budget. There were very limited accessible cabins on the whole ship. The rest of the ship dealt very well with the scooter.
Our cabin on the Granduer was on deck 8, just below the pool. A minor annoyance was that after 10 pm the staff dragged the chairs back to where the belonged. This was pretty loud. One night, I was awakened from sleep to the sound of sliding chairs at 3am.. By the end of the cruise, I hardly noticed it.
This is the first time we are cruising on the Granduer. We choose a junior suite because I use a scooter and needed the space. This was a good choice as we still had plenty of space to move around and turn the scooter around to exit room going forward.
The one strange thing was a pole at the end of the bed. I don't know if this is standard in these cabins or we were just "lucky". There were none shown in the room picture. The pole was covered in padding. My husband used the pole to stabilize when he dressed.
There was a step up into the bathroom. This posed a challenge as I have walking challenges. In general the bathroom was small for the size of the room. Certainly not able to have two people dress at the same time. Another thing the ceiling were really low. As I am short it was no problem. But if you were 6 feet or more, it would not be comfortable.
The storage for the suitcases was tight. We have cruised on another line that had the bed higher so the suitcases could be stored under there. But my husband said I overbacked and then if I hadn't, the baggage issue wouldn't matter. LOL
We are used to having a much more present cabin staff. Our assigned housekeeping person did a good job, but I only saw him 3 times during a 12 day cruise.
The balcony was amazing. And the chairs and a real table made it a great place for morning coffee or sunsets.
