We just got off the Carnival Splendor today, and have what I would call a mixed review. First, the cruise director, MarQ, was excellent. He had a high level of enthusiasm and was an excellent speaker. He is funny, and did a great job entertaining the passengers. Second, the ports were excellent. We stopped in Nassau, Antigua, St. Kitts, San Juan, and Grand Turk. Third, the ship was very kid friendly, and there was lots to do for all age groups.
There were, however, some issues with the cruise. First, the food was average. The buffets were pretty much identical every day, there was no sushi at all, and if you like Italian food, the pastas (which were very rare) were not good. Second, the housekeeping was only average as well. When we checked into our "finished" cabin, the toilet was so dirty inside that it looked like it was a month before it was cleaned. Our bathroom in our cabin also wreaked everyday of what smelled like sewage, and it never went away. Third, although there were some excellent bartenders, some of the staff were extremely rude. On many occassions, they would act like working is the last thing in the world they wanted to do, and wouldn't say a single word to you when you ask them for a beverage and thank them for getting it. Fourth, the shows were very weak. Having been on other cruises where the evening shows would sometimes parallel what you'd see in Las Vegas, on this cruise, the enterntainment was similar to what you'd see in a high school play, and the singers were average. In fact, one of the best singers was a read bearded guy who sang in the Atrium. A few nights into the cruise this same guy was so drunk (when he was supposed to be singing by the Casino) and he kept saying out loud how much he hated his life. Not a great representation of the Carnival Splendor.
