This was the 20 day maiden voyage of the MSC Seaside from Trieste, Italy to Miami, Florida. I would liken this to a new ship's sea trial voyage to fix operational and equipment at sea. I was expecting a few problems but not as many as experienced on this cruise. The ship is beautiful but run by incompetent management. The staff was poorly trained, especially in customer service and the sit down restaurants. We stopped going to the regular restaurants for breakfast and lunch at the Seashore Restaurant because of extremely slow service. We changed waiters at the evening meal to Hari Wibawa Adnyana because our assigned waiter was too slow. Hari had previous experience and was fantastic even though the food was mediocre on most occasions. About 60% of the elevators were operational during the whole cruise, including the disembarkation day. For a ship of 4000 passengers, working elevators are a must. Although we did not experience it, there were toilets that did not flush and no running water in cabins after 5 days at sea. The evening theater entertainment was amateurish and very short (about 30 minutes) due to a very undersized theater for the size of ship. There was nothing that made this maiden voyage special for the passengers which was surprising. The bakery chef was outstanding and should be given a raise as the breads and baked goods were absolutely delicious. The dismebarkation was a fiasco and we were over 90 minutes late as there were only two people processing departing passengers. Only two people to process 4000 people? My overall impression of MSC management is that they are incompetent in anticipating potential problems areas and very poor attention to detail. I would not recommend MSC Seaside as a cruise ship until there are major improvements in staff training and mindset of the management.
The balcony cabin was very nice in size. The closet design was poor and the shower was very cramped in size.
