The ship spent two weeks in dry dock and is completely refurbished. Our cruise to Bahamas was the very first afterwards. We were told that the remodel took over a year in the planning, with some 1800 workers completely stripping the interior and refitting with all new carpet, cabins, draperies, artwork, public rooms, etc. It is absolutely gorgeous--understated elegance and luxury, in a grey, taupe, crimson color scheme. Our cruise was very short but a great getaway. Only complaint is that dining room service seemed slow and a bit disorganized compared to other cruises. (No doubt the "new" Nieuw Amsterdam still has a few kinks to work out.) We've always been Carnival people and the Holland America experience compared very favorably, with that one exception. Highlight was the new "Lincoln Center Stage" with three classical and popular music programs presented daily, featuring five talented young musicians, on grand piano, violin, viola, and cello. We will sail this ship again and can highly recommend.
