Is there anything better than being in the warm winter sunshine when it is snowing at home? Or having a Yuletide suntan! This was a delightful cruise combining relaxation, we had five at sea days, and the chance to visit a real crossover of destinations. From touring privately the slums of Mumbai to the opulence of Dubai all in four days.
Celebrity Cruises are very good. The entertainment was superb, its director a really nice guy even if he mentioned the Ashes score once or twice! No complaints whatsoever about the way we were treated.
Our only gripe, shared by many fellow passengers, was the number of extras you had to pay for. 18% service charge per drink is extortionate particularly when being served at the bar. The push for gratuities is too clinical and the tips suggestions almost obscene. Why the housekeeper is deemed as only deserving of a tip three times less than your table waiter is crazy and stinks of upstairs downstairs which is so wrong. We chose to cancel our daily gratuities and instead gave a far fairer allocation of our tips.
Although it didn't overall affect us the pool staff need to ensure that deckchairs are not reserved by 7am. If a deckchair(s) has not been used in 30-45 minutes maximum than it should be cleared to allow others to use them. One passengers argument was that she had got up early for her chair rather than lazing in bed; then admitted being in bed before ten the night before! So those who chose to enjoy the evening entertainment and stayed out and slept in later came down to find few available deckchairs other than those with towels, a book yet nobody on them. If Celebrity want to appeal to younger travelers who stay up and get up later than they need to take firm action over the sunrise reserving of deckchairs. I got up early one day and found the deckchairs overlooking the pool all taken by 7.41am! Not being used but reserved; one couple didn't actually sit on their chairs till after 12pm.
Very clean and spacious. Well maintained.
Cruise tours are very good but we wanted to see the real Mumbai not just the tourist attractions. In Mumbai this has to include the slums. Mystical Mumbai gave us a fantastic full day private tour mixing all aspects of a city so much better than our pre conceived perceptions. Visiting the slums is a privilege, you can't do it on your own, and although so many have so little the feeling of community and the big smiles on the children's faces was totally inspiring. What makes it even better is that Mystical Mumbai is run by university students living in the slums. All tour profits going towards fellow students educational costs. I have never given such a big tip but it was so worth it. The customer service was so good and personalised. I cannot recommend Mystical Mumbai and its owner Shaleish any higher.View All 31 City Tour Reviews
