I would like to share some experiences from our recent (12/2) Celebrity Equinox sailing out of Miami. We have been on about 32 cruises over the past 16 years. We have tried all the main stream cruise lines but Celebrity and Holland America remain our two favorites.
We flew in the day before departure and spent the night at the Doubletree Hilton, Biscayne Bay. The hotel is a short $16 Uber ride from MIA. There is a Publix a block away for any last minute shopping and a really (really) good Italian restaurant off the lobby called Primo's. The port is a quick and reasonable $8 Uber ride from the property. This is a good choice for a pre-cruise stay.
Embarkation/check-in was super fast and friendly. We booked a Sky Suite (cabin #2131) and the priority check-in process got us onboard about 15 minutes after our 11:30 AM port arrival. The room was available about 1:15 PM and luggage arrived about an hour later.
This cabin is very nice; quiet, conveniently located and beautifully maintained. The overhang is a little much but if your concerned about too much sun or heat, it will work well for you. We loved the shower, ample storage space and great toiletries.
Miami is just a great departure port; Excellent port staff, nice hotel choices and wonderful transportation process!
So much to do on your own; in our opinion the best port on any Caribbean itinerary
There just isn't a whole lot to do here.
a great port, if only taxi's were a little bit more reasonably priced.
