We switched from another cruise line to NCL last year and so far, it has been the right decision for us. Other than the internet being really slow and as expensive as another line's REAL high speed, the cruise, the service and the cruise ship are excellent.

We absolutely love the Haven and all its amenities. All of the Haven staff is excellent, and the food in the Haven Restaurant & Courtyard, and in the specialty restaurants is very good. The Haven bar and bar/deck service on the Breakaway was the best we have ever had on any ship and any line. Our butler this year was very attentive to our every need and made sure we were happy and that we ate very well! She also escorted us to our specialty restaurants to be sure we got in with no delays. The room steward was top notch as well, with a friendly attitude and wonderful service. The concierge was very good too, making all our requested arrangements and escorting us to some places in the elevators behind the scenes to avoid waiting for the main ones.

We will miss the Breakaway when it leaves NY for New Orleans, but with 2 more cruises planned on the Escape, we hope that the Escape is as good with excellent service, food and friendly staff.

Cabin Review

The Haven Courtyard Penthouse with Balcony

The Courtyard Penthouse suite (H5) is a very spacious suite,I believe the smallest of the Haven suites at over 330 sq ft plus a good sized balcony. There are much larger suites and balconies on the ship, depending on how much you want to spend. The Courtyard Penthouse is perfect for two people without all the cramped spaces that are in a regular balcony cabin. They are also close to the Haven Courtyard, bar and restaurant. There are two closets (one on each side of a small hallway to the bathroom), one with small drawers and shelves under and over the safe shelf. There is a table and two comfortable chairs for in room dining, and a small sofa. Under a long counter along one wall in the room, there are drawers, the two bottom ones are very deep so hold a lot. There is also a smaller counter that has the refrigerator under it (minibar - you can get it emptied out to put water bottles in it) and a Lavazza espresso maker on the counter, and a wall cabinet above with glasses, cups and bar accessories. I am not crazy about Lavazza myself, and I heard that when the ship is in rehab in 2018, they will be replacing them with Nespresso machines. The room has a fairly large bathroom that has a bathtub with shower and one double width sink. Toilet is in the bathroom, with a privacy door. Plenty of storage space under the sink too.

It is much like a standard balcony, but with a lot more room!

Port Reviews

Port Canaveral (Orlando)

Unless you have an excursion planned, there is not much to do there.

Great Stirrup Cay

Great beach, can be very relaxing or as busy as you want to make it with the water sports.
