This is our second cruise aboard Norwegian and it began as expected. The amenities provided by Norwegian are nice and as a family we select cruises based on the ports and value. This particular cruise aboard the Dawn was priced competitively and offered five ports as opposed to three by other similar cruises.
Before I get into our week I have to confirm what I have read from other reviews regarding the soda cards. Norwegian strongly advertises the cards, but the employees definitely don't like to serve guests using them. I am certain it has to do with the loss of auto gratuites attached to each beverage purchase. And the soda from the fountains was flat during the entire trip.
With that said, our week was filled with great weather, wonderful ports and memories of a lifetime. Unfortunately on, Friday, our first of two sea days returning to Miami the ship suffered an electrical failure and was adrift for a couple hours. Inconvenient yes, but not the end of the world as it was daytime and we were still enjoying great weather at sea. Any cruise ship is vulnerable to a failure such as this and the staff on-board did a decent job at keeping guests informed and happy. The power could not be fully restored and the decision was made to divert to San Juan, Puerto Rico. Again not really so bad as the only real inconveniences during all of this was loss of air conditioning, the closing of most restaurants, and the cancellation of shows.
We selected an inside stateroom, as we always do, because we really only sleep there. The room provided decent amenities and the small space was expected. Overall the room was nice...no complaints whatsoever.
