The Norwegian Sun cruise from Miami was our first experience and it was a good one. Entertainment was excellent and the choice of ports was balanced and made for good excursions.

I previously had read some reviews that indicated that the ship was in poor shape and I disagree. The ship is dated, there is no doubt, but it was clean and tasteful. The ship is going into refit (Victoria BC) at the end of March and will be redecorated and some of the lounges will be redesigned. I look forward to cruising on this ship after the refit to see how it looks. The theatre is located at the stern of the ship which according to the NCL Players that I talked to they appreciated especially during the one evening when the sea was a bit choppy. They said that they experienced a similar chop on a vessel with a theatre near the bow, the show would more than likely have been cancelled for the evening.

We met so many people that took this cruise only because of this ship in particular and after a few days on the Sun, I have to agree. The size of the ship (approx 2000 passengers) was comfortable and it was easy to make friends and to run into them on various activities. We spent a lot of time in the Windjammer Lounge and after a while, I think I got to talk to everyone who was a regular in the lounge. Entertainment by James was terrific.

Cabin Review

Partially Obstructed Oceanview Porthole Window

Cabin OK

The cabin was roomy and comfortable. The Porthole window was about 1 metre in diameter and gave us a great view. We were located on the Promenade level and the crew ensured that those walking past our porthole window were restricted to daylight hours only. The area was closed to traffic from 8 pm to 8 am daily. The glass was one way and we tested it to make sure that no one could see in. The cabin was clean and everything worked well. Would be happy to have this cabin or one similar to it in the future. Location on the promenade level was ideal for moving around the ship.

Port Reviews

Martinique

Just walked around the town and enjoyed the local scene

Antigua

Toured much of the island and for a cost of only $25 per person. Well worth it. The tour guide was knowledgeable and very friendly.
