Having sailed on the Regatta a few years ago, my husband and I chose Oceania's Riviera so we could experience the two additional specialty restaurants, as well as the on-board Culinary School classes.

We had wonderful meals in Red Ginger, Polo Grille, Jacques, and Toscana. The service and presentation of each and every dinner was top-notch.

Embarkation in Miami was a bit chaotic - U.S. Coast Guard did a ship's inspection, which put everything way behind schedule, but once on board, our cabin was ready, luggage delivered and a late lunch was served. The Riviera is absolutely beautiful and spotless. Our stateroom on Deck 9 was conveniently located across the hall from both the Concierge Lounge and the Laundry (and before you ask, no noise from either). For the small additional cost, we had access to this Concierge Lounge 24/7, as well as a private sundeck and hot tub connected to the Canyon Ranch Spa. All passengers can use the Fitness Center (very large and well equipped) and the Steam & Sauna rooms, as well as take various Fitness classes such as Yoga, Pilates, etc. This particular cruise had three scheduled sea days - with an additional one added when we could not tender to Punta Cana due to rough seas. There were quite a few Culinary Classes to chose from on Sea Days, 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM (for an additional cost of $69 p/p); each class is about two hours long, and so much fun with Chef Noelle and her efficient staff of three - all the prep and clean-up is taken care of - just show up and start cooking! You will go home with some new skills and all the recipes printed in a lovely booklet. Another culinary treat for us was Le Reserve seven course French wine pairing dinner. My husband is not even a wine drinker, and yet this dinner was his favorite; mine, too! There was an upcharge of $95 p/p & 18% gratuity and well worth every dollar.

Our cabin was quite spacious, and we were able to unpack and put away two weeks worth of clothes, and store our suitcases under the bed. Our steward kept our cabin spotless and stocked with clean towels, toiletries, ice, glasses, refrig filled with water and soft drinks - we never had to ask for anything. We always received a reminder of our dinner RSVP for the evening, which we appreciated, as well as booked excursions. We always started our day with a room service delivery of coffee and tea - the best sort of alarm clock we could ask for.
