Cabin: Junior Suite

We just returned yesterday from our four night cruise on Vision of the Seas from Galveston to Cozumel and back. We were in Cabin 8588, our first time in a Junior Suite. The cabin was the size of a decent hotel room and had a HUGE wrap around balcony off the back of the ship, with a table, two chairs and two full sized loungers, plus room to spare. It was AWESOME! We loved our room and the balcony! The bathroom was also MUCH larger than we are used to when cruising and this was a very welcome change. There was a ton of storage space in the cabin, with a big, big closet and lots of drawers. To say we were satisfied with our room would be an understatement. We were thrilled with it!

The ship is indeed getting a little older and tired, but it still looks much better than the Carnival cruises we have been on. The layout of the ship is just fantastic. There were times we openly wondered if the cruise was not really sold out - the management of the flow of traffic was really very good. The adult only pool was kept as adults only, though it was in the Solarium, which got pretty warm during the day when the sun was out. Think greenhouse. It was just too warm in there to hang out as much as we would like to and the main pool area was pretty loud. No worries though - there were tons of deck chairs all over the place, most with a great view. We never wanted for somewhere to get some sun and relax.

The ship has a rock climbing wall - a feature we didn't take advantage of, but it looked fun. There were two Ping-Pong tables as well, located near the main swimming pool. The Schooner Bar was a nice place to hang out and have a drink. All over the ship the table service was a bit spotty and even the bartenders at times seemed very slow, but everyone was friendly in the bars and the drinks were pretty good. We purchased the Ultimate Beverage Package and made good use of it, not just for alcohol but also for water and soda. It was nice not to have to be concerned about the cost of our cocktails and we enjoyed trying new things. There was a fantastic selection of premium liquor available on the package. We also upgraded to the Deluxe Dining Package, so we could have dinner in a specialty restaurant every night. This was not as good as it could have been. The ambiance of the restaurants was pretty good and the service was down right great, but they don't seem to be able to cook a steak better than medium (medium rare just didn't happen) and the cuts of meat were seriously sub-par for steak. On our final night my husband did get the lamb and it was actually phenomenal, so it seems to be a bit hit or miss. The tiramisu in Giovanni's is to die for and Tony, the waiter we had both nights in there, was wonderful to us, keeping our wine glasses full and smiles on our faces.

Cabin Review

Junior Suite

Cabin JS

Super spacious cabin with two nice chairs and a pull-out sofa with a coffee table and a little round ottoman that could also be used for some storage space. The balcony was literally 2.5 times the size of other junior suite balconies due to being on the end and wrapping slightly around the ship. We could have had a party out there. The cabin did get hot during the day from the sun pouring in, so we often had to keep the drapes closed. The room is air conditioned, of course, but there was only so much it could do against that kind of heat gain. The bed was surprisingly comfortable and we slept really, really well (might have had as much to do with the cocktails as the bed). The bathroom had a tub in it, smaller than full size but I could have taken a bath in it easily were I so inclined. No shower pressure at all, which is typical of cruises, but ample hot water. TONS of storage space with a huge closet and enough hangers to accommodate all the clothes we needed to hang up. Many drawers, space for cosmetics, handy shelves, etc. The space was very well used to allow for storage. The safe did not work, unfortunately. The room was probably a little worn by some standards, but it was not gross or blatantly shabby, just starting to show a little wear and tear here and there. The room was isolated and very private, with the spa above us and no sounds conducted. We would absolutely book this room again. Loved it and felt lucky to have it. Biggest downside was being a fair walk away from the nearest bar for fetching drinks.

Cozumel

We just wandered around, did a little shopping and then enjoyed the empty ship for some R&R.
