The Homelands itinerary included countries we desired to see. As opposed to the mega-ships, we were looking for a new smaller luxury ship that was beautifully appointed with a focus on passenger service. Our experience was unparalleled. The ship is simply magnificent. The public spaces have a clean open Scandinavian feel with glass, beautiful blonde wood, and wonderful pieces of art creating a serene ambiance. Every stateroom has a veranda and is beautifully appointed. All dining is inclusive and provides exquisite dining options of specialty restaurants. Additionally, Viking includes wine and beer with lunch and dinner. From the time that we embarked on our cruise we were swept away by the service and the smiles of the staff. They took impeccable care of us. Every question and every request was thoughtfully handled with promptness and care. Viking provides an included tour at each port. Additionally, they do provide specialty tours for a fee if you wish to have an alternative. We did a combination of both included and specialty tours and found that their included tours were just as well organized and professionally led as their optional tours. The organization of all of the tours was amazing. They had more than enough staff to assist with disembarkation, tour assignments, and then assisting you to embark the ship at the conclusion of the tour. They always provided water, fresh fruit snacks, umbrellas, and a courteous smile and greeting each step of the way. Entertainment was not Broadway, but certainly on par with most cruise ships. Viking also offers port talks and enrichment lectures which we found to be very insightful and helpful.
