We took this first river cruise on Viking because of a recommendation from friends. This was our first river cruise and it was everything we wanted and more. Viking goes out of its way to make sure you enjoy everything about your cruise. Every detail is presented in the best way possible. We had a 2 day pre trip to Lucerne and had Viking make the arrangements. We were met at the airport by a Viking guide and taken to our hotel. There were guided side trips in order for us to get the most out of our experience. We took a boat trip on Lake Lucerne and finished it with a tram ride to the top of a local mountain for lunch. The following day we went on a guided walking tour of the city of Lucerne.

The river cruise was wonderful and included side tours at every stop. The tours were interesting and helped us to understand the history and culture of all the places we visited. We met new friends on the trip and have already gotten together with them for dinner when we returned home. We have traveled extensively throughout the U.S. but have only been to Europe 3 times. This cruise packed a lot of wonderful destinations into 10 days and was the best trip we have ever been on because of the accommodations aboard and the attention to detail of everyone aboard the ship.

Cabin Review

We were advised by our travel agency to select the French Balcony. We wish we had selected the full balcony cabin but made the best of what we had. In retrospect we probably were forced to socialize more because we didn't have our own balcony to sit on. Which proved to be a good thing in the long run.
