A 15 days ocean cruise “Cities of Antiquity & the Holy Land” on the Viking Star, we chose this cruise for the countries and ports: Greece, Greek Islands, Israel and Italy. At each port Viking had an included (free) or optional excursion (paid), the excursions were well organized and guides were very informative and knowledgeable on the sites visited.
The Viking Star is the second of the ocean going Viking ships with 930 passengers. It is larger than Viking river boats so making it less intimate and service less personal. There are five restaurants which you can choose to dine in with complimentary wine and beer for lunch and dinner. My favorite restaurant is the Chef Table (requires reservations) a fixed 5 course dinner with wine pairing – the menu changes every 3 days and each on a different theme.
The décor is modern Scandinavian with areas where you could relax in comfortable chairs and loungers. There are two pools – a large indoor pool with a retractable roof and in infinity pool cantilevered off the stern. The most stunning is the Nordic spa, with a thalassotherapy pool, a steam room, a hot tub, a sauna, heated ceramic lounge chairs and a cold plunge pool, as well as a "snow grotto". There is also a full beauty salon for hair and nails.
The cabin is small but very comfortable had adequate space to store the luggage and ample closet space and drawers for clothes and a safe, a king size bed with luxury linens and a nightly turn down. The bathroom is a good size with a very nice shower and a good supply of toiletries. The cabin crew were fabulous, kept the cabin immaculate. There is a self service laundry on each floor – pack light.
