After a very scenic drive from the airport, we arrived at Marigot Bay where Vela was anchored. We arrived a couple of days early in order to explore St. Lucia. Island Windjammers arranged a day tour of the island which was a welcome introduction.
The ship is a beauty. You can check out the details here but if I remember correctly, Vela has 8500 square feat of sail and can really move!
The cabin we stayed in was a Deluxe. It was well appointed but was cozy. The bunks were very comfortable.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner were provided daily. Portions were large and delicious and seconds were offered. The chef prepared dishes that predominately contained a local flair. Ingredients were often obtained while we were in port. Breakfast was served in the common area inside but typically lunch and dinner were on deck. Happy hours were celebrated daily at 5:00 although complementary beer and wine was always available.
Entertainment was typically of your own making although snorkeling gear, paddle boards and onboard games are available. The crew did make available tours of various ports or islands for those interested. It appeared that reading and just enjoying this beautiful boat was enough for most passengers.
The crew was exemplary! Everyone bent over backwards to ensure our comfort and safety.
This was our third cruise with Island Windjammers and certainly not our last. The company genuinely cares and it is evident from any review that you will read that these adventures will be treasured for a lifetime.
Well appointed but cozy. Bunks were very comfortable.
