We selected this cruise because of the ease of getting to Galveston from Austin. Quick 3-4 hour drive got us there around 1pm to avoid the main rush of embarkation. Surprisingly, though, there were still some long lines (that went quickly) to get through security and check in.

This ship (Liberty) is larger than the other holiday cruises we've taken (Navigator, Brilliance), and we were very excited to see the size of the ship and the extra activities. We were 2 families traveling at Thanksgiving (one family has cruised several times, the other family was new to cruising) with 4 boys between us (aged 16, 15, 14, and 13). Having cruised before, I knew that having lots of activities was important. It was also important to make sure they knew about the additional activities happening in the Living Room (teen lounge) that were available in a separate Compass. The activities did not disappoint. Even the adults found the water slides, Flowrider, and rock climbing fun. Daily trivia was also a favorite.

The cabin was great. For this cruise, we opted to go with 4 rooms. Initially, we had thought the brothers would have their own rooms, but the boys decided with and "older boys' room/ younger boys' room" set up. Each kids' room had a door adjoining to a parent room, but we never did open the locks (which was fine). We selected Promenade rooms to save a bit of money but still have a view. My only regret is that we were at the end of the promenade area which didn't allow as much view of the activity below. (Of note: some people may appreciate that better, especially if you are an earlier sleeper as some activities and entertainment go later into the evening. Having said that, the room was WELL insulated from the noise below.). As much as I missed being able to see the hustle and bustle, I also appreciated being near the stairs for easy access wherever we wanted to go.

Promenade Stateroom

Cabin PR

The room itself was nice. The windows overlooking the promenade seemed to be very noise proof. I barely heard anything.

There was plenty of space to put our items. Our room had 2 couches. 1 was built into the bay window.

The ONE thing that I found disappointing is that the bright lights in the promenade turn on about 1am instead of mimicking a more natural light brightness. I suppose I expected it to get bright around 6 to 7 am like the sunrise. Instead I was surprised when it was uber-bright in the middle of the night.

Port Reviews

Roatan

The port was beautiful with lots of interesting vendors. Our excursion was canceled due to weather.
