Viking Star Cruise Review by Travel Hamster
- Sail Date: October 2017
- Destination: Mediterranean
Food is one of the most important attributes of a great cruise. Viking has failed to deliver in the main dining room, specialty restaurants and the buffet. Classic dishes were poorly made. Often got cold and pre-made dishes. Sparse attention payed to local cuisine. Wait and service staff spottily trained. Management tried hard to make up for these deficiencies, but only partly succeeded.
No plan B for unexpected weather - related conditions that prevent porting. An extra day at sea is not the answer. There appeared to be an opportunity to port, but it was not taken. We have sailed with another line and when this has occurred, there was a plan B.
There was a great pianist and a good trio on board as well as a very good series of lectures. The staged entertainment that we saw was ok.

Tour 2. Visited Tel Aviv - just a big city, but with some interesting architecture. Went to Jaffa and walked the old streets followed by going to Caesarea with a stop to see and old aqueduct.. The Caesarea ruins were very interesting and the guide very informative.

Jerusalem (Ashdod)Picked up in Ashdod and drove to Jerusalem. Visited the City of David excavation followed by the Old City through the Dung gate. Went to the West Wall followed by lunch in a restaurant overlooking the wall and its plaza. Drove to Yad Vashem and spent 2 hours in this remarkable site - way too little time to do it justice.View All 13,324 Jerusalem (Ashdod) Cruise Port Reviews

Island of DelosShort boat ride to the island followed by an awe inspiring visit to a very important site of antiquity. There should have been an optional tour that spent more time on the island. There were other areas of this island to see plus more time was needed to explore the museum.View All 92 Island of Delos Reviews
NaplesTerrible weather! Fortunately we were underground most of the time. We went down roughly 100 steps into the underground that once served as the water supply for Naples and was used during WWII as a bomb shelter and hospital. More recently confiscated vehicles were places here and they remain as relics. Went to a restaurant that served Margarita pizza and wine; so so.View All 13,324 Naples Cruise Port Reviews
