We both work for Fedex which means that you do vacation bid a year in advance and may or may not get what you want based on seniority. We got a week together for this week in November 2017 so I looked on the NCL website to see what cruises were available for that week and then choose which one we wanted to take. This was our 4th cruise on Norwegian and we have enjoyed every one. This was our first time checking in on Cruise Critic ahead of time as we only learned of the site while on the 3rd cruise. We enjoyed the sail away get together and the Meet & Greet we only wish that things had been livelier on the message board so that we could have possibly gotten more involved and found folks to do things with since we did not cruise with anyone else. Even so we did have a lovely time and enjoyed the relaxation and specialty dining. We ate at Le Bistro, La Cucina and Tepanyaki. We went to the main dining room Taste and The Tropicana Room and made OSheehans our go to breakfast place. We did hit the buffet a couple of times when we needed to grab something quick but tended to avoid the masses there. The Getaway is set up very similar to The Escape which we sailed last year so getting around was pretty easy. Sorry to say there were lots and lots of the scheduled events that we had absolutely no interest in and found that the ones we were interested in tended to be packed and you had to get there way early if you wanted to get a seat. It is what it is when you have that many people in that confined a space and are trying to entertain them all. We were kind of bummed that we chose to upgrade our room to a Mini Suite Mid with Balcony and it was the exact same footprint as the just plain Balcony on the Escape. Felt like a rip off.
The room was clean and inviting our only complaints were that the only electrical outlets we found in there were the ones at the desk by the balcony door. Nothing on either side of the bed for recharging cell phones while sleeping (used the cell phone alarm to wake for port days) and no outlets in the bathroom for electric razors or anything hair related. All charging had to be done on that desk. The other complaint was that each time we have cruise we have upgraded to a better room. When we were on The Escape last year we sprang for a balcony and loved it so we upgraded again and this time went for the Mini Suite Mid w/Balcony only to find that while it was an upgrade in price it was the exact same room.....no bigger no fancier in fact the balcony seemed a little smaller. Bummer.
While this is the cruise lines private island we had a nice time parked on the beach enjoying the sun and sand and watching the zip line folks go by. Took a few minutes to do some duty free shopping before we headed back to the ship.
