This was my fifth cruise with NCL and second cruise on the Spirit. Personally I liked the size of the ship: mid-size, with about 2000 passengers on board. I didn't feel overly crowded. The decor was elegant, with Asian inspired art work throughout the ship.

I noticed a lot of people criticized the food on NCL, but I noticed the food on the Spirit has noticeably been improved since my last cruise four years ago. I tried to go to a different venue for each meal, and my review here focuses mainly on food on board..

I had chosen the Specialty Restaurant package and visited 4 restaurants- 1.Cagney Steak House (it was at a different location in the past) - by far the best of the four, the fillet mignon and sirloin steak were perfectly grilled and our server was excellent. We ordered a bottle of Bordeaux red wine to go with the meal. We had a wonderful experience here. 2. Le Bistro, the French cuisine here was nothing special and the service was mediocre. They had sirloin steak (reg cut & size, nothing special) on the menu, but you had to pay extra if you had the special package deal...which was totally ridiculous since other specialty restaurants offered the same steaks at no extra charge. 3.Tratorria, it took us a while to find the place which was practically part of the Raffles Buffet restaurant. The Italian food here was good and we had a friendly and efficient server. 4.Teppanyaki Japanese Grill - it's always fun to watch the chef's cooking performance. We ordered the steak and prawns combo and they're really tasty.

The was the first time I had a "window only" room - all my previous cruises I had balcony rooms, and I wasn't too sure if i'd like it...but it was a pleasant surprise. The room was spacious enough for two, and the bed was comfortable. At first I worried about the A/C system because some ships cranked up the heat, and there's no balcony to step outside. The temperature control in the room worked well and I kept the room nice and cool at night. In fact, I had some the best sleeps on a cruise ship in this room! The only problem was the shower, it lost water pressure on the very last day.

Port Reviews

Rhodes

The old city was only a 10 min walk from the port. It's an UNESCO world heritage site, and it's wonderful to walk around and explore.
