We did Fort Lauderdale to Montreal last year in April and friends on board wanted to do a Fall Foliage cruise on Veendam.
Boarding process was very smooth - as it usually is for HAL. Cabin was ready but o bags so we ate in Lido - great food.
Service in main dining room and Pinnacle Grill was excellent - best we have had on HAL. Cabin stewards were efficient and did the great towel animals daily. As is normally the case on HAL's R and S class ships, the entertainment was varied - no big Broadway type shows. Paul Pappas great pianist and Bobby Brooks Wilson (son of Jackie Wilson) put on incredible individual high energy shows. Veenddam singer and dancers were OK, but not our cup of tea. The Adagio classical violinist and pianist, Alex and Alexandre, were phenomenal artists - and the Explorers Lounge where they performed was packed for each performance with SRO.
Cabin Review
Lanai Ocean-View Stateroom
We had Vista Suite 171 - a very comfortable cabin. But, it had some problems. The wall paper was peeling in two spots, the carpeting was bunched up in many areas from cabin door to veranda and threads were pulling up in quite a few spots,the lounge chairs had paint chips in them and the caulking of the deck was coming up in places. totally unlike previous HAL Vista suites we have sailed in. Reminded me of a very old motel in need of renovation.
Port Reviews
Bar Harbor
Nice town to visit. but, there were 3 ships anchored in the port and so the streets were full of tourists - including us.
Boston
We has family members join us on the ship for lunch and visit. Excellent.
Montreal
No excursion, but spent two nights before cruise. Very nice city with definite french ambiance. Several great restaurants on Crescent Street.
