NCL arbitrarily chose to combine our cruise with passengers from the NCL Gem resulting in an overcrowded ship. Service was the worst we have ever experienced after 33 cruises. The whole experience was a disaster. I particularly resent that NCL did not notify us of this change before we sailed. Every aspect of this trip was disappointing. The crew was discourteous wherever we went. The language barrier made ordering meals a challenge and since many of the dining staff were only semi-fluent in English they frequently made mistakes with our orders. Getting our room steward to understand that we needed ice to take our medications took 3 days of asking over and over. As for the bar service, we noticed that mixed drink prices were 20% higher than the year before and they used smaller glasses. Did you ever pay $9 for a domestic beer in your life? Because of the overcrowding getting near the bar to order was a daunting task. Our tender stop at NCL's private island was cancelled presumably because of rough seas. I think they were not prepared to handle over 4700 passengers tendering into the island so they blamed Mother Nature. Now for the food. Very, very ordinary offerings at the buffet. The lunch and dinner menus never changed during the 7 day trip. Cagney's Steakhouse offered a "King Cut" of prime rib and I looked forward to having that for dinner. It was even advertised on a back-lit panel at the restaurant entrance. Oops! It wasn't on the menu and not available upon special request. No apologies were offered. Take it or leave it. The entertainment was pedestrian with a few has-been comics, a lame magician and floor shows that failed to impress. On that note, our cabin was located right below the Breakaway Theater. One of the shows was "Rock of Ages" with constant and loud kettle drum percussion. It shook the walls in our cabin while we were trying to sleep. I had requested another cabin months before because of limited mobility due to recent knee replacement but was turned down despite Silver status with their Lattitudes program. The final straw was their planning most of the on-board activities in an area called the Atrium which holds about 150 people. How did they expect to fit 4700 guests into this small venue? Or even 10 % of them? Finally, the disembarkation process took 90 minutes of standing to complete. My knee hurt like hell. The idiotic decision to put 2 cruises together created a ripple effect that caused a deterioration of service and quality. When and if this review is published I urge you to choose a reliable cruise line company. In my opinion Norwegian Cruise Lines failed to meet even the most basic expectations of their customers.

Cabin Review

Mid-Ship Oceanview Stateroom with Large Picture Window

Cabin OB

Small with no room to walk on either side with the beds put together. Hard to control the a/c because the temp. control would reset itself to heat. To stay cool I had to tape the thermostat setting on cool.
