We went on the Oct. 28th 12 day cruise to the Caribbean and had a OV cabin on deck 2 since I booked this popular ship too late to get a suitable cabin on a higher deck. I chose this cruise because of distance from our house in NC that did not require us to fly and because of all the positive comments from repeat cruisers that showed how much people loved this ship and the crew.
POSITIVES: I totally agree with the reviewers who have repeatedly said that the crew on this ship are exceptional. Captain Cavala had his wife and 3 children on our cruise and we could often see them in the Centrum, in the Windjammer or at different events all around the ship. This captain is EXCEPTIONAL in that he is friendly, humorous and quite visible around the ship. Cruise and Activities directors Paul Rutter and Tanya Yates are also exceptional but sad to say that their days on the Grandeur are numbered. Paul will be off to Asia on the Quantum of the Seas and Tanya will be leaving in April.
Activities on the Grandeur are more numerous and varied than ANY of the other 25 cruises we have ever taken. There is something for everyone to do onboard at all times of the day. However, as a result of all of these activities there are few places inside the sip that provide a quiet place to read or relax.
Smallish in size but good arrangement of storage areas with many drawers available unlike more modern largest cruise ships. Cabin was very quiet with occasional sounds of some very large machine (trash compactor??) that would interupt the silence at various time of the day and evening.
