We chose this cruise because we wanted to go to New York for 4 nights, then cruise from there before flying back to the UK. I'm not new to cruises, I've been on 2 cruises a year since 2015 and this is the worst one ever. Let's start with the positives, our cabin was lovely, the shower had a proper door, not just a curtain and we got good service from our cabin steward. The food was good. The negatives were numerous, the ship advertises 14 restaurants but doesn't say that you have to pay for all but 4 of those, almost every ship has speciality restaurants but not at this ratio. The staff worked really hard but there weren't enough of them, they often appeared harassed and one of the ladies on the shore excursions desk was rather curt. We thought the embarkation and disembarkation was a bit chaotic, it is a big ship but NCL could learn a lot from P&O or RCL, both of which do it better. It does say freestyle cruising, however there were several women who went to breakfast in pyjamas, which I don't think is appropriate. Also the passengers were putting their feet on the tables in the bars and also on the sofas but the staff ignored it. The passengers were shouting across the bar at each other and there was a lot of pushing and shoving. I'm not prudish but the entertainment on the deck one day was inappropriate, there were children around but no-one seemed to care. The other entertainment was mediocre, except for the Spiegle Tent circus, for which you had to pay an additional $49 per person. I have cruised NCL before, earlier this year, when we had a great time, so we were disappointed.
I read the reviews before we booked but our experience don't match the majority of the reviews, so I hope this is helpful for those people who are used to cruising with other lines, where this sort of entertainment and behaviour is not tolerated.
The cabin was nicely furnished, the bathroom was particularly spacious, with a walk in shower cubicle with a glass door rather than just a curtain.
Good beach BBQ, lovely sheltered bay and a few market stalls.
We hired a horse and buggy and also walked around the shops.
