While everything with Avalon Cruises are top notch, be prepared for non-stop activity and not getting much rest and relaxation on this cruise. It was still a blast, however we would have liked to go on our own and explore the cities by ourselves. Not in all cases, but in most. That would have required more research and planning on our parts, and we just didn't do it. We did see cities where we would like to go back to explore more. Be prepared to eat a lot, that is what also keeps you very busy on this cruise. You get bused out to an excursion after breakfast then get bused back in for lunch, and these are very big meals. They do give lighter options, but I'd rather stay in the city for lunch, see a museum, shop or explore.

I'm giving this advice so you realize you have choices or just go along and not do much thinking/planning. My husband and I love to get full immersion into the different cities and cultures, that is true traveling to us. This was our first cruise, and it was an experience of a lifetime. Great food, entertainment, wonderful service and living quarters and we made some great friendships. One can only see so many cathedrals before they all start looking alike. Would rather have viewed small art museums or had lunch at a cafe. The best part was the 4 hour bike rides through the country and small towns then stopping for pie at the local pub. Visiting a local winery and hearing first hand from the owner/operator was a great time also.

Sure we would travel with Avalon again, however would put much more thought into it as far as personal experiences to explore on our own.
