We wanted to visit several of the Hawaiian islands other than Oahu. These surpassed expectations and were simply wonderful and are highly recommended. The ship itself, from our point of view, had 3 problems: (1) half of the crew were great, but the other half seemed disinterested and unfriendly (in the Teppanyaki restaurant the two waitresses seemed positively hostile to guests, doing their best to ruin an otherwise wonderful foody experience); (2) the range of food in the cafes was adequate but poor by comparison with, e.g. Princess on which we usually travel; (but we very much enjoyed 3 specialty restaurants); (3) we were on Deck 10 forward portside and had constant early morning loud noise from crew moving furniture, which Guest Services pretended they knew nothing about though it must be a normal feature of those cabins - avoid Deck 10! The overall result: we loved the islands but would tend to avoid Norwegian again if we could. However, there was no other choice for this trip. Also an hour's queue to check in!

Port Reviews

Honolulu

We love Waikiki. Also drove around much of island in hire car

Maui

We hired a car and drove around first the Lahaina -Kapalua loop and next day to Hana. Very enjoyable. Hiring a car for 3 of us was a fraction of the price of ship excursions and gave us all the flexibility we wanted.

Hilo

Again we hired a car and drove to the volcanoes NP: fraction of ship excursion cost

Kona (Kailua Bay)

Just wandered around town here

Kauai

Hired car for fraction of ship excursion cost and drove to the absolutely amazing and unforgettable Waimea Canyon.
