Cabin: Ocean View Stateroom

My company hosted a business gathering on board.

I found the staterooms to be subpar, the dining unexceptional, the bars to be inconsistent, the internet to be reasonable, the steward to be good, the common areas to be clean-but-old. The entertainment, while typical, was not bad.

Cabin Review

Ocean View Stateroom

Cabin G

Clean but Shabby:

This particular cabin is one that can be an adjoining cabin, I did not use that feature.

Bath:

Shower with a clean knit curtain (not a glass door), slightly larger than I have seen on a couple of other ships. Curtain hangers caught on the rough area in track where it had been screwed into the ceiling and made opening and closing it difficult.

all faucets provided consistent temperature and good pressure.

Shower head was on a flexi-line that could be adjusted up and down. Head had a couple of settings, I didn't test them.

Shower had 2 wire soap holders.

Sink drain was "okay", a bit slow and sometimes gurgled.

the sink Stopper worked!

floor/tiles as well as walls looked old and yellowed, but clean.

A couple of cupholders by the toilet (not quite sure why!)

Soap was round bar in sealed plastic, shampoo in-shower dispenser

Toilet was a typical vacuum pushbutton.

Sink and counter space I found to be pretty good for a ship, I've seen smaller.

Bathroom had 2 small trashcans, one "installed", and one on floor.

a couple small shelves that were reasonable for a ship.

the door had a stopper device on it that was connected to the frame and had pulled the door frame away from the wall.

The negative-pressure vent was audible when in the bathroom, not detectable from rest of the cabin.

4 useful hanging hooks on door.

lighting was florescent and took a few seconds to blink on (ballast maybe going bad). It provided plenty of light.

Hair dryer was not stored in the bathroom, but found it in the desk.

EU-style shaver outlet in the light fixture.

Towels were always freshened, regardless of whether they were hung or left on the floor. Towels were 100% cotton, a few had stains. Washcloths were present.

Closet:

well-stocked with hangers both shirt/jacket and pant/skirt hangers with clips and 2 levels of hanging rods

storage safe available

3-4 wire shelves that were nice for folded clothes

floor space for small-to-medium suitcase storage. It was interrupted by the vertical rods/posts that held up the hanger rods.

the closet door had a single bi-folding door that had to be awkwardly pulled open from the middle, but was generally acceptable. Closet door/exterior was (ply)wood reminiscent of college dorm.

porthole cover stored in the closet.. I didn't mess with it.

Closet contained the mandatory 2 flotation jackets on the floor.

A paper laundry bag with typical (astronomical) prices was in the closet.

Rest of Stateroom:

Cabin door required extra force to latch closed. Door has peephole.

Small desk w/ small chair and 4 small drawers plus a wide drawer. One desk drawer would not fully close. US-style and EU-style outlets, but the US-style was not good at "holding" a plug in. The desk basically had space for 1 notebook computer and a bit more.

Temperature/airflow was good.

Switch lighting turned on a light at entry/door/closet and a second light at the port hole.

Lighting fixtures on either side of bed turned on and off by on-fixture switches provide both bright incandescent and a small LED reading light.

2 hooks for hanging clothes, useful

Window/port hole was present and reasonable.

Curtains were not blackout curtains, but were pretty good at keeping cabin dark.

The head of the bed was under the porthole so you could not see out when in bed.

Mirrors in bath, at desk, and a full length on back of door (that can provide a very unflattering view of you when lying on the bed!)

Hung from the ceiling, a small, older 3:2 video screen with remote. I couldn't find an accessible HDMI port, but didn't look too hard.

The bed was a king sized (2 twins together), 4 large foam pillows. Sheets and other bedclothes were clean and white with no visible stains. mattress firmness was fine, no creeping of bedclothes off the bed or anything. Generally the bed was good.

About 2 ft of wall clearance on either side of bed

1 trash can

No "extra cost" items were ever present like a minibar or bottled water.

Internet worked in the cabin as well as it worked anywhere onboard.

No problematic odors in the cabin.

An extra blanket-type item was available on top of the desk area.
