My wife is of Croatian ancestry and I am of Italian ancestry and this cruise visited our grandparents birth countries and provided interesting insights into our heritages. The ports of Kotar, Dubrovnik and Livorno were new to us and the other ports had multiple opportunities for new shore excursions. The ship is one of RCI oldest and smallest, but was in great shape and easy to navigate no matter how tired you were from sightseeing. We had several outside tours and two scheduled with RCI. We used Milo in Kotar, and received not only an interesting tour, but insight into that countries history and current challenges. In Rome, we used Italytours.eu and had them pick us up as we exited the ship saving us time from using the shuttle bus to the main bus staging area. Our driver Alexander was excellent in navigating the torturous streets and traffic, and managed to get us close to all sites. He provide commentary while driving and found us a nice quiet spot for us to have a reasonable lunch and do some additional sightseeing. We had skip the line tickets for the Coliseum and the Vatican, where we had an expert guide, Isabelle, who knew about all the works of art, even what the painter was thinking at the time. We used RCL for two tours, first in Dubrovnik where the tour was supposed to be 3.5 hours but included 1.5 of free time on our own. The second out of Livorno to Cinque Terre was cancelled when we first got on board. It seems the outside tour operators are more interested in keeping you happy. Overall a great cruise and met some interesting and fun people. The food in both the MDR and Windjammer was varied and tasty and the service in both was responsive. The shows were fine and only one of the production shows "country" a little repetitive.

Great ports of call

Cabin Review

Cabin 8550
The cabin was close to the elevators and centrum but the noise was minimized by them closing the interim doors. The only noise we heard was from the 9th floor from the roliing noise from the closing of the automatic doors.
The cabin was spacious and clean and our attendant Ida, did an excellent job.

  • City Tour
The guided tour part was fine and our guide was knowledgeable but it was only 2 hours of the described 3.5 hours tour. The remaining 90 minutes was on your own before getting back on the bus. There was also a shuttle if you got done early or stayed later.

Took one hour bus tour of Livorno which was hit by flood in Sept 2017. Unfortunately not all the stops were available. The downtime shopping area is top tier with many fine shops.

Booked with tours by Milo who was also our guide. Very knowledgeable and passionate about his country.Took us to most sites even though we got caught in daylight savings time which is a week earlier in Europe. We managed to see once town Pearst after dark but it was also interesting and lots to see.

  • National Archeological Museum
The museum was great with many artifacts from Pompeii, the hoho bus has two routes, one along the coast, the other of the art/historical district. While the bus had a schedule it was only for guidance.

We got to see all the major sights, with inside visits to the Coliseum and Vatican and even had a leisurely lunch.

  • Venice Walking Tour
Booked thru Viator and our guide Marco was excellent in providing an interesting commentary with humorous antecdotes. This tour also included on hour water taxi ride with guide. Both covered all items of interest in Venice.
