We did the Circle Caribbean with B2B for the maiden Panama (new locks). Boarding was faster than expected as the ship was not delayed at Customs/Coast Guard as long as expected from its transatlantic crossing. However for those of us that stayed aboard for the B2B turnaround the information given was incorrect, thier procedure/paperwork was not as expected and we were caged for over 20 minutes in the very hot boarding bridge because the ship was not ready for us. Bungled and frustrating experience. We were aboard the CP in late March for the last cruise before its overhaul. We were impressed with the refurbishment. The ship is in excellent condition for its age (launched 2004), and we were really impressed with the new "Marketplace" buffet layout and the new design/decor of Steamers and Planks. We had our first experience at Steamers where one of us ordered from the Steamers menu and the other from Planks menu. This is a nice feature if you are not both interested in the same menu. My wife had the "Princess Broiled Platter" which is a mixed seafood dish, crab stuffed Flounder, Scallops and Shrimp that are served in a very hot frying pan. Excellent. I had a selection of four meats from Planks. Pulled pork, ribs, Roasted Tri Tip and chicken drumstick. There was a small portion of not impressive pulled pork in a bowl, dry meatless ribs, tough tri tip and a tasty drumstick. Not impressed and would not return for this selection. There is a $12 cover charge for dining in these two venues. For this you receive spacious seating, table service and a quiet environment. These venues take up a lot of space and from our experience are not popular. I think this is a Princess experiment that will fail. We did return to Steamers where we both enjoyed the Platter. Service was attentive and the atmosphere very pleasant. We tried one meal at the Crown Grill. We were disappointed with our seating which was adjacent to a service area. My wife had the Sea Bass with king prawns, leek and mushroom ragout etc which she found to be pretty to look at but she would have preferred simple Sea Bass with while my Beef Chop was blackened with excessive mushroom and onion sauce. Couldn't enjoy the beef which was not particularly tender. We only used the Buffet one evening. We were impressed with the selection and quality. I believe refurbishment included some new "hotplates" because we found all our selections to be hotter that in the past. This was especially noticeable at Breakfast. All our other evening meals were in the Coral anytime dining room (deck 6 after 7:30). Here we were always warmly received by Paco the Head Waiter. Our first experience was in a section served by Vincente and Adi. Vincente immediately understood our desire for a leisurely meal and we had a great rapport with this team. We asked and obtained a standing reservation for this section from Paco. We enjoyed excellent service and friendliness throughout our B2B voyages. The dining room can be noisy. We were generally pleased with the menus but have noticed a decline in the sophistication of the dishes. We had purchased our voyages during the Sip and Sail promotion. While aboard this changed to the Premium Beverage Package which allowed up to $12 drinks. With this benefit we were frequent visitors to Vines,, the wine and tapas bar on deck five in the Piazza. There we were always warmly greeted and received attentive service from Laurentiu and Viviano. Great place to visit before dinner or a show. We enjoyed the shows, in particular Bravo, and really liked the three performances per evening with the mid-evening show being televised in Explorers lounge. Would have liked to have more performers in Explorers or Fusion lounge. We had several changes in ports and even a cancellation but the entertainment staff quickly adapted to provide things to fill in the time. The adaptation of a Cruise Director and Entertainment Director seems to work well especially for Steve and Marahscalh. We find that the Boutique sales and Photo setups in the evening on the decks surrounding the Piazza simply cause confusion and impede traffic going fore and aft. This was our 32 and 33 cruise with Princess and we continue to be impressed with the friendliness and courtesy of Princess staff. They are the prime reason for our return. We have one particular "beef". We had cabin B748, a premium aft corner cabin with a massive private balcony of over 100 sq. feet. We have had these corner cabins several times because we are attracted by the balconies. However, for about the last two or three years, about the time they changed the balcony furniture, these balconies are now fitted with only two reclining chairs without foot stools and a tiny table barely able to accommodate two coffee cups. This make it impossible to consider room service, entertaining or balcony dining. However, William, our cabin Steward, provided us with outstanding attention and accommodated our request for early servicing. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our voyages and will be sailing with Princess and the Caribbean Princess again.
