Sail Date: Oct 2017

Having sailed on the Paciifc Dawn out of Brisbane last year, we wanted to save travel costs and sail from our home port in NZ. Cruise departed from Akl and have to say embarkation was much simplier and efficient in Auckland. Disembarkation was just as painless.

We had a balcony suite 10176 and was in a great spot on the ship never had any trouble with noise. Was very happy with the dining, while we spent most of our dining time in the waterfront, on the occasione we used the pantry we were very happy with the food selection. Also dined at Salt Grill on night of Gatsby party, food was fantastic and thouroughly enjoyed the very professional service from the staff who were also very accomodating when one of our party fell ill ( sea sickness).

Gatsby night was a winner yet again. My only critique would be of the entertainment staff, didnt feel the same vibe and happy involvement from the crew as we did on the Dawn. Also felt the quality of bands and singers not quite at the level of those on th Dawn, with the exception of Lisa Crouch who was phenonmenal. We we all very pleased that they gave her a second show which was packed out. Service staff are the best and go out of their way to be of great service to all. As stated by others the Jewel is in need of an update as she is looking a bit tired, look forward to sailing on her again when she has a refit.

Port Reviews

Noumea

2nd trip to Noumea, so did not do a tour. We did buy the hop on hop bus pass once we were on shore (much cheaper) , we went and spent a couple of hours over at Duck Island. Very expensive there, plus cocktails were stronger than on the ship but would hope so at $18 each! Be aware that if you go to Duck island they charge you 35AUD to sit on one of the sun chairs with and umbrella. Enjoyed the morning markets though a bit pricey comapred to Vanuatu. Accept Pacific Francs and AUD

Isle of Pines (New Caledonia)

Loved this place, great snorkelling and absolutley gorgeous. Jumped on a bus and did an hour and quarter tour of some key places on the island for 15AUD. Very informative and reasonably priced in a lovely aircondtioned bus. For all of the islands I definetely reccommned taking your own snorkelling gear as much cheaper than hiring.

Port Vila

My fav place having spent time here before after the 2015 cyclone. As always the duty free for those of us who enjoy a tipple is fantastic. Highly reccommend Frazers tours and transfers for anyone going to Vila.

Mystery Island

Cute little island, great markets, awesome snorkelling
