As the headline says, we expected better from P & O. For a ship that is just over 2 years old it is starting to show signs of wear and tear and the lack of staff for general maintenance, cleaning and restaurant service is much apparent.
1. Very good food.
2. Very good live entertainment and daytime presentations by guest speakers.
1. The 'Freedom Dining' is an absolute shambles. The lack of waiting staff and co-ordination between, the head waiters and the reception staff meant that queuing was inevitable and the paging system used failed to work properly the majority of the time.
Lack of staff also meant that tables were not cleared efficiently - thus the wait for tables. Dropped food and utensils were not picked up - staff training maybe?
This is the main reason for the 2 * rating.
2. General cleanliness was another area that could (and should) have been easily dealt with. The windows in the Horizon dining area were absolutely filthy and not cleaned at all during our two weeks on board. The same applies to the glass on the outside decks - especially Deck 16.
3. People should also be aware of the terrible soot problem on the aft decks and balcony cabins.
All in all, a very disappointing experience with P & O and we will not be cruising with them any time soon.
