We wanted to do this cruise, never having been to Hawaii, as an “island sampler”. We’d get to see several islands without the hassle of flying island to island & repacking & unpacking. Norwegian, this is our third cruise with them, employs good people who seem to enjoy their work. They make these cruises fun! Good shows in the theater, good piano man singing & engaging people, decent but not great, food. The islands are the deal...beautiful. We fell in love with Kauai and would heartily recommend the Blue Helicopter excursion...worth every penny. We also did the Smith family luau there...not Norwegian sponsored, but really good...on beautiful grounds, and very wholesome. You can see the family pride in their property, and the quality of the food & drink. Very nice show as well. One big disappointment was the “road to Hana” excursion...supposed to be a limo tour with a snack & lunch. It was expensive, driver was ill-informed & grumpy, and it was a van holding 8 people. Rent a car on Maui, drive the road yourself, enjoy, and save a couple hundred per person! We did car rentals a couple of times, and they were worth it. We went to Lahaina that way, to the beach, and to Volcanoes National Park...wow!
Next time we’ll probably just go to Kauai for a week or two. But the Norwegian Cruise really was a great way to sample the islands.
Nice, clean, but small. It took some getting use to. To the credit of the staff, our a/c wasn’t working at first & we had no hot water. Both issues were solved quickly. Nice balcony where we viewed molten lava at night flowing off the big island into the pacific.
