I Live in Sydney and embarked/disembarked there on Golden. 4 Years ago I was on Golden LA to RIO and it was the most memorable cruise to date.

I take a drinks package when I cruise to avoid Bill shock. I am on holidays ! Only this time on the cabin desk on departure I find a letter advising me the drinks package I paid for was now changed to an inferior with no Can drinks and limited to 15 drinks a day. I do not drink much but I like what I am used to. My Jack Daniels and diet coke is a generous pour at home so I try for a double. No doubles allowed but by the fifth day doubles were provided by most bars but that was classed as two drinks. OK I don't drink much and never get near 15 a day. As I am a insulin dependent Diabetic I use Diet coke but the on board diet coke tastes like swill and what they poured was raising my sugar levels. So I had to purchase my own cans to be sure the mix was sugar free.

I was so upset for the first five days I wish I was not there. No offer of refund was provided or compliance with Australian Consumer law. The Desk staff were all grumpy rude individuals and never resolved a thing. One Bar every time I had a drink my wife was charged the same drink and she was not there. Three times so I avoided that bar.

Cabin Review

Mini-Suite with Balcony

Cabin MB

Cabin was the same as 4 years previous. Balcony door was so hard to open the wife gave up and left it to me.

Port Reviews

Akaroa

Not much to do in Akaroa as by the time we left the ship by tender the festivities were over.

Napier

Weather was bad so the ship bypassed the port.
