My husband had a bucket list of seeing the battleships and carriers in California. This ship went to the ports that housed these museums . We enjoyed the extra time in San Francisco and San Diego. We did not do the excursions provided by the ship, but used Uber to get around and bought excursions at the port for San Diego. In San Francisco there is a bus that runs to several areas of the city which only cost around $2.00 for seniors. There is also a free tram to Pier 39, Fisherman's Wharf.

The staff on board were fabulous. The ship is older and is in need of repairs. Overall it was a great, relaxing cruise that met our needs. The cuisine continues to disappoint in their menu selection. The shows were well done but there doesn't seem to be as many activities during the day as there used to be. Excellent staff aboard this ship. I can highly recommend this cruise for a relaxing vacation.

Cabin Review

Balcony

Cabin BE

The cabin was fine. I missed having the center drawer on the desk. The view from the balcony was perfect. There was no obstructions and we enjoyed the great view of the sea lions in Ensenada. The port side was in the sun going up the coast, but was very enjoyable on the way home. We always choose a room at the end of the hall for the quiet and this room did not disappoint.

Port Reviews

Los Angeles

We came in a day early and stayed at Best Western of San Pedro. They offered free cruise terminal shuttles. We enjoyed a tour of the USS Iowa while we were in town.

San Francisco

Great day in San Francisco. We got a Uber ride to Alameda to tour the USS Hornet. Upon return to the ship we went around San Francisco with the F Line. We rode a cable car and visited the sea lions at Fisherman's Wharf.

Monterey

There is a free shuttle offered by the ship to the shopping district. We rode it and walked around the streets before returning to the ship.

San Diego

The USS Midway can be reached by a short walk from the ship. We spent a couple of hours touring the ship and would have stayed longer but the unseasonably warm weather caused us to cut our tour short. We purchased a hop-on, hop-off tour around town at the pier. We spend almost an hour waiting for the next bus at one stop. Would not take this again.

Ensenada

Paid the $3 to ride to the town to shop. This is crowded and the street peddlers harass you to come into their shops. We are used to Cozumel which is much cleaner. Would not get off the ship next time.
