We had never been to Canada. We live in Florida so this longer cruise was perfect, we only had to fly one way. We love to travel on Holland America Lines, so the fact that Zuiderdam was due for an interior face lift did not bother us. We know and love their standards, so could put up with a few chips and rips.
The Crew was wonderful, always helpful & Roxan in the Ocean Bar is the Best Waiter on board.
the Food was a little odd by the second week. (an awful lot of fish, for someone who does not eat fin fish.) The food we ordered was good & we could order a baked potato if the sides did not appeal.
Cabin was ready for us & spotlessly clean. We asked for nightly ice in bucket & it was always delivered.
Cabin needs more drawer, I had to use the shoe shine basket to coral small items that I had no drawers for & empty the side cabinet too.
Location was good.
It was a cold and windy day in Port so we walked down to the Terminal. They have a great selection of local artists. I found a Ammolite Pendant less than a third of what you would pay in the states. (Ammolite is only found in Canada) We also purchased Maple Sugar Candy for the Grandchildren. Took the mandatory photo of the Giant Fiddle on the dock and walked back to the ship.
We walked to the "Immigration Museum" a few piers over from where we had docked.
This is a very well done History of the Peoples who emigrated to Canada. They have a research area where they specialists help you search for your ancestors (Fee).
There are tours of the displays with knowledgeable guides. Movies , and lots of history!
After the museum, we walked through the many little shops in the pier building.
