I went on the Norwegian Breakaway from 10/15-10/22 and I couldn't have been more disappointed in the experience. There certainly were excellent staff members (the staff at Shakers Martini bar were great) but the rude and obnoxious ones (of which there are many) stood out. I've never had so many people in the service industry act so rudely towards me. The Hostess at "the noodle bar" on the first night was set the tone for the rest of the trip by speaking to us like she was an annoyed mother. The 2nd day the bartender at Spice H2O really just couldn't be bothered with us. You'd think we were asking for a kidney they way he acted when we asked for a drink (AND THAT'S AFTER I TIPPED HIM). After that we stayed away from the bar and strictly dealt with the wait staff who were awesome (and the reaped the financial benefit of doing their jobs professionally because my group was full of big tippers). The worst experience was with the hostess La Cucina. She was very rude and insisted the restaurant was booked despite being 80% empty. Her nasty attitude took away from the service provided by our waiter and the maître D' who was top notch. The final straw in the service dept came with one of the dealers. the dealers are awful, rude and condescending which makes losing that much worse.
As for the food, I've heard cruise ships are supposed to have excellent food. Not the Breakaway. It was average at best. Even when it was "good" the rudeness of some of the staff made up for that.
Grand Stirrup Cay was nice, except for the sharp and jagged rocks in the water near the cabanas which makes anything other than standing in the water hazardous to your health.
Small but very nice and comfortable
took FOREVER to get on the ship
Took 30 mins to get from the ship to the island. Once on the island we paid for a cabana, which was a complete waste of money since the cabanas are located on a beach that has such large and jagged rocks to do anything but stand in the water is seriously dangerous.
