Viking Star Cruise Review by keno940
- Sail Date: October 2017
- Destination: Mediterranean
Dining was a joy. We appreciated not having fixed seating and that there were no formal banquets. Elegant casual was only required in the two specialty restaurants and casual in all the others. When it came to the others, numerous choices were available including 24 hour room service. Food choices ranged from a simple hot dog to an elegant Beef Wellington.
The Viking ocean ships are right sized. With just under 1000 passengers, we never felt like sardines packed into a can. No lines to get to dining areas or crowds waiting for elevators. The only time we noticed a large crowd was the last evening aboard for the farewell ceremony and entertainment.
The theater complex was not just to watch a movie or entertainment. Educational presentations were available to provide insight into history of places visited as well as educational presentations. Port talks providing information about the area to visited, some language and money tips as well as background of local culture helped in appreciating our excursions. If you couldn't make it to the theater, those presentations were available to watch on your in room TV.
In summary, we we're extremely satisfied with our cruise and would highly recommend Viking to others.

Port & Shore Excursion Reviews
Culinary TourAn extra cost excursion and worth every penny. The best shore excursion on our cruise. The Greek cooking lesson and food were excellent and included a welcome drink, wine with the luncheon and baklava for desert with a cordial.View All 8 Culinary Tour Reviews
Cable CarThe cable car portion was a great opportunity to get some excellent photos of the walled city of Dubrovnik. It was followed by a tour of the walled city and some free time on your own. The only down side is that every cruise ship tour has a stop here so it was terribly crowded which dampened the experience.View All 42 Cable Car Reviews
Leaning Tower of PisaThis was an included excursion. It was the best of all the included excursions we went on. We saw the tower, went inside the church and the baptismal building and had some time to explore on our own to have a cappuccino, some gelato and do some souvenir shopping.View All 131 Leaning Tower of Pisa Reviews
City TourAn included excursion. Cruise terminal is unfortunately a long ride from Rome. We saw lots of sights from the bus and had one stop for a photo shoot followed by an hour of free time in St. Peters square. If doing it again, would have taken one of the extra cost excursions.View All 319 City Tour Reviews
SplitThe scenery on the river was breathtaking. About 20 passengers per boat and cameras were clicking at every turn of the winding river. Ended with a light snack of local food and wine. and extra cost excursion and well worth it.View All 12,810 Split Cruise Port Reviews

Venice Walking TourLot's of walking as the boat docks quite a distance from St. Mark's Square. We saw Doge's palace, bell tower and basilica from the outside and then the long walk back to pick up our boat back to the ship. The square is another location that every cruise ship and tour brings it's passengers to see so it is jammed with people milling around to try and get some pictures.View All 69 Venice Walking Tour Reviews
