We decided on this cruise, after having to cancel another cruise due to strike by British Airways. We liked the ports visited and hoped in October the crowds and weather would be amenable. We were surprised at the number of tourists and the crowds we had to deal with at a few of the ports. Celebrity is great for customer service but seems to be lacking in some of the other niceties which used to be offered. We don't mind paying extra for a different dining venue but $50 per person seems a bit steep, along with a limited menu and dates/times. We did enjoy having the beverage package.. it made it very simple and easy to order beverages w/o concern. We did find the cabin a bit dated and the shower doors proved to be problematic - we did have a disfuction toilet but thankfully we were going on an excursion and by the time we arrived back the issue was resolved. Again, we had great service from our room attendant to customer service staff. The people who ran the excursions were a bit scattered. We did like meeting in one central locale, however with overcrowding and sometimes, pushy people, the bus situation was at times, testy... The issue our tour had with a bus which had NO air conditioning for both ways of a r/t excursion which was nearly an hour drive in 83 degree temps was met with a less than satisfactory offer of 20%.. we had to call, go to the desk again, call and finally after much frustration were given a full refund. I think the choices of outside companies needs to be reviewed. We were more than happy with our wake up calls and Room service. What we did realize was we do prefer smaller ships. we have cruised with lesser people and more interaction with staff. The manager at the first sitting for dinner, no matter how many times we passed him never acknowledged us til the last night (no surprise right?), however Jayson the person who kept it all together, made it a point to go table to table and ensure you were happy almost nightly and bring the chef around a couple times too...much appreciated!
Our deck was cleaned once during our stay- we had a safety drill before embarking- however it was disconcerting to see guests bringing in drinks and laughing- however I had to wonder why the need to make a video which seemed to make light of any emergency situation - making it like some spy movie instead. Safety is something to be taken seriously and I hope Celebrity rethinks its ridiculous video and goes back to drills that are informative and not cute. We would return, however we did notice that the prices for 2019 are nearly 2x the cost of our 2017 cruise and less perks. We have cruise smaller ships and prefer a more intimate cruise where you are treated as an individual and not "one of the masses". The excursions we chose, we less than we hap hoped for..part of it was the crowds of tourists, part of it was mismanagement by the outside companies used.. I hope more attention is given to such things.
We found the cabin to be average, nothing special, somewhat dated. The veranda was adequate, with 2 lounge chair and table which had stains on it..There was privacy but if anyone was above or outside on either side you could hear them very easily. The one thing that I didn't like, was the shower doors, having to close them at the same time or open them the same way- very cramped. The towels were ragged at times and I had a huge hole under the arm of my robe! Surely Celebrity could sift throught such things! The bed was comfy enough, movie channels offered the same every single day - unless you wanted to pay for pay-per-view. We didn't get offered fresh fruit/flowers which is a nice perk. There was nice added storage above the bed, but I am short and it was not convenenient for me to use. The electrical outlets were limited! 2 by the desk, one in the bathroom.. not enough! Hair dryer- very old and very inefficient. We did use the fridge which barely kept things cool. Our stateroom attendant was great, We needed more hangers but seems that they are at a minimum so we got about 7 wire hangers instead.. We had to avail the pull down racks to keep out clothes somewhat less wrinkled. Room service was great- while we only used it for breakfast, the staff was efficient and it was nice to get a call a few minutes before they arrived as a warning. I would suggest updating the covers on the sofa/pillows- we made sure not to reuse them..not sure how often they are changed. The "do not disturb" signs did not stay on the door- maybe another type is needed..since it is windy in the halls we would find ours 90% on the floor!
I do think there is some room for improvement in the cabins. What is nice is the ability to take care of most issues via the tv option... no need to change or purchase unless there are problems or exchanges. We did manage to book a couple excursions, or at least see what was available so we could make a decision before standing in line.
the experience would have been great if the crowds were minimalized.. Our wine tasting was a joke- a walk thru to a deli little plastic cup of white wine, you moved along to select a plain half piece of bread with or without pesto and back out the little store- to find no seats, nothing... the boat and train was ridiculously overcrowded our out tour group had no control over anyone.. very disappointing except for scenery
Journey to Murcura.. somewhat disappointing for less than organized tour guide.
