This was our third cruise in 13 months and our first time on Royal Caribbean (RCL). Due to vacation time strain, we selected the Enchantment of the Seas 3-nights Bahamas cruise. The itinerary included Coco Cay and Nassau.

The Ship - Enchantment of the Seas could use a major dry dock on the outside. Rusts develop on all ships. We saw rusts on a 2-years old ship. But the Enchantment takes it to another level. When you can see rust stains on the hull of the ship standing outside the custom house in Nassau, you know the ship could use a new paint job. Wife said Enchantment looked "old and sad," which I agree. RCL could spare some TLC on the outside of the ship.

Interior is actually much better. Although not new, but the carpet looked and felt in decent condition. Public areas are clean and well maintained. Furniture are showing signs of heavy wear and tear, which I expected given the ship's year-round short itineraries. Once you are inside the ship, you forget how bad it looks from the outside.

Cabin Review

Superior Ocean View Stateroom with Balcony

Cabin D1

We had a balcony room on deck 8 (D1 category). Room was clean and our room steward did an excellent job keeping it that way. The room was big for 2 and and the 3-seat sofa became our makeshift storage for our camera and laptop bags. Balcony's size was decent and had 2 chairs and a table. Lounge chairs won't fit on this balcony though. Mattress was think, but firm. Just don't jump or crash into the bed or you might be surprised. Shower had sliding plastic doors instead of curtains, which was very nice. Sink and toilet flowed freely. However the shower temperature fluctuates and it never gets hot enough for my preference. The medicine cabinet shelves were glass - look pretty but one of them was severely chipped to the point it could hardly stay on the support.

With that said, avoid any rooms under the pool area. This was my mistake for booking one. There were people running, chair dragging, and thing dropping for 20 hours in a day. We ended up not spending much time on the balcony simply because the noise.

Port Reviews

Nassau

Walked around in Nassau in the afternoon. Didn't take any tours or excursions. Gray Cliff Chocolates and John Watling Distillery were pretty underwhelming.
